Nar Phu Valley Trekking is a newly opened trekking route north to the Annapurna massif. The territory located at Manang district was opened for foreign tourists only after 2002. The trekking route is culturally dominated by the Tibetan Buddhism with ethnically diverse inhabitants. Nar Phu valley trekking route follows the path of the popular Annapurna Trekking Route and moves away from Koto after crossing the graceful Marsyangdi River. Trekking through the low altitude to the high trekking passes like Kang La Pass (5320m) and Thorang La Pass (5415m) offers a panoramic view of the Annapurna Massif and the unexplored landscape. Nar and Phu are two beautiful and remote villages which used to be the transit point for salt trading until the government closed the border. Nar Phu Valley trekking route is one of the best ‘off the beaten path’ route to explore the hidden valleys in the remote areas of Nepal.

Different indigenous cultured people like Gurung, Lama, Ghale and Bhotia are spotted along the trail which shows the diversification of the culture. The people have different language, tradition, food and traditional dress. One passes through the isolated villages, forests, beautiful landscapes, rock formations and the sacred monasteries along the Nar Phu valley trekking path. Yak and sheep herding, Yarsha Gumba; Caterpillar Fungus (valuable medicinal plant) collection and agriculture are the principal income source for the people in the remote valley. Apart from the unfavorable landscape and weather for the growth of crops, Bhotia people residing on Mountain region grow barley, potatoes and seasonal vegetables. People on the high and remote villages like Nar and Phu villages wear, weave and produce the woolen clothes from sheep and yak. The alpine valley above the beautiful Phu village offers a pleasurable view of snow covered mountains and the valley beneath them. The magnificent mountain ranges like Annapurna (8167m, 10th highest peak), Dhaulagiri (8167m, 7th highest peak), Manaslu (8163m, 8th highest peak), Lamjung Himal, Gangapurna and the sacred Machhapuchhre Himal is visible along the way. The stone and mud made houses and the pristine lifestyle of the people displays the pure and flawless culture of the inhabitants. The trekking along the route is strenuous and requires a good level of fitness.
